For first degree or minor burns, manifested by red skin only, cool the burn by holding the skin under cool water. Cover the burn with a sterile non-adhesive bandage. Treat pain with pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

For second degree burns manifested by red and blistered skin, follow the same steps as above, and see your doctor for evaluation and treatment.

For extensive burns or full thickness (deeper) burns, take your child to the Emergency Room.
